Excuse my French but this happy ever after shit makes me spew! There’s no such thing and I know that for a fact.
My wife Mary and I were married for seventeen years. It was a second marriage for both of us and I thought we were going to grow old together. You know, two rocking chairs on the front porch and all that. Yeah right!
One day, about a year ago, she knocked me for six when she announces completely out of the blue that she doesn’t want to be married any more. Just like that, no warning, nothing. And you know what, I feel completely ripped off. She gets to live in the beautiful house in the country I built for us and I get to live in a toilet block that the real estate sharks call ‘an inner city lifestyle.’ It’s not fit for a bloody rat, let alone a fifty-two year old guy who loves the wide open spaces and the night sky.
The worst thing is I helped Mary raise her two girls, Ellie and Kate. I love them like they’re my own but now they won’t see me because their mother and me are divorced. It breaks my heart that they won’t even talk to me when I call.
This is my life now: get up, go to work, come back to this shit box, order pizza, blob out in front of the tellie. Happiness? Mary stole my happiness and she won’t even tell me why.
